From Angel, I found out that, after Rheidan tried to capture me, Kira and Jakob had taken off. The spies who followed them indicated that Jakob began summoning some of his friends to find me.
“Of course they wanted to find me. I’m their ticket to save Kira!” I screamed. “You’re a fool!” she said. “Do you have any idea how much pain the elementals went through to become these monsters? Do you know what it’s like to be cut off from everything and everyone you know? To be seen as a freak and not as a person? To never return to the way that you were? Of course, Jakob did what he did. He loves his daughter and he would do anything for her!”
I couldn’t look her in the eyes.
As she stormed out of the room, I looked at Savina and I could see the pain in his eyes. He quickly looked away and I realized that my father would probably be ashamed of me. All along, I’ve only really thought about myself. I’m sure that this was not what he wanted his son to be.
I asked Savina to tell Angel that, if she needed help, she could count on me. As he left, I felt the darkness closing in on me and wondered if I was making the right decision. I didn’t know how to fight but, apparently, I have this magical item that could help. I just didn’t know how to use it.
